here Transferring UK pension benefits to Australia has never been straightforward, and recent developments across both jurisdictions have added further complexity. Changes to the UK pension tax framework, evolving HMRC positions and the ATO’s interpretation of the applicable fund earnings provisions can materially affect the tax outcome of a transfer and the viability of strategies previously used to manage Australian contribution caps.
In this updated webinar, Jemma Sanderson will revisit the core Australian and UK rules governing pension transfers and examine the latest developments affecting transfer strategies. The session will cover applicable fund earnings, partial and complete transfers, ROPS requirements, upcoming increases to the UK minimum pension age from April 2028 as well as the interaction with Australia’s non-concessional contribution rules and the new Division 296 tax regime.
Through practical examples, the webinar will help SMSF professionals identify which transfer strategies remain available, where previous approaches may now produce unintended tax consequences and what should be reviewed before progressing or completing a transfer.
