When a member dies: The Administrative Reality of Deceased Estates

In addition to the potential impacts to the SMSF structure, the death of an SMSF member can trigger significant administrative, legal, and financial complexity. This presentation explores the practical steps that follow death when dealing with a deceased member’s estate — from immediate notifications and asset identification through to dealing with banks, super funds, share registries, and government agencies. Drawing on real-world estate administration experience, Danielle Phillips of Sage Executor Solutions will highlight common pitfalls, delays, and risks that executors and families encounter, and discuss how early planning and professional collaboration can significantly reduce the burden on clients and their advisers.
